Who We Are
SEDS is a research unit which is hosted within the Department of Methodology at the London School of Economics. As it was established in January 2016, the staff numbers are small. Their details are below.
Ken Benoit is a professor in quantitative social research methods and is the director of SEDS. He received his PhD in political science with a specialisation in statistical methodology from Harvard University, Department of Government. He has previously held positions at Trinity College Dublin, where he held a chair in Quantitative Social Sciences, and at the Central European University (Budapest). He is also the Head of the Department of Methodology at the London School of Economics.
Professor Benoit’s research focuses on automated, quantitative methods of processing large amounts of textual and other forms of big data – mainly political texts and social media – and the methodology of text mining.
